Design Statement
In the realm of product design, envisioning a creation for the avid outdoor enthusiast is
like composing the perfect photograph. The main subject within the frame must harmonize and
resonate with all other elements evoking emotion from the photographer to the viewer. Just as
a skilled photographer selects the ideal lens, lighting, and composition to encapsulate the raw
beauty of nature, so do I carefully curate materials, form, and functionality to build my product
as the subject in the users frame.
My design process, much like the art of capturing a photograph, begins with a clear vision.
Like framing a shot, defining the purpose and bounds of the product is crucial. I first build a
frame with all the elements that need to be considered, and imagine the product as the
subject. Understanding the needs and desires of the user using empathy and understanding is
akin to adjusting focus; it's about finding that sweet spot where function and aesthetics
converge, ensuring that the product is not only practical but visually appealing.
Texture and detail, akin to the subtle nuances in photography, become paramount. The product
should exude a tactile quality that transports the user to the mountains and forests that they
love. The hues and tones, inspired by the earthy palette of the outdoors, should resonate,
creating an emotional connection that ignites wanderlust and adventure.
Ultimately, the goal of my product design theory is to craft an item that serves as a window to
the outdoor world—an invitation to explore, appreciate, and protect the natural splendor that is
the truest muse for every outdoor enthusiast.
