Craftsmanship over Consumerism

The current state of the Outdoor Industry is trapped in a dichotomy of consumerism and the protection of Earth. At its root our industry is being driven by the bottom line, while trying to save face amidst an accelerating climate crisis. Design must be necessary to be done at all. The head waters of innovation should be dissatisfaction, not the Q3 line-up. Enough with the endless replication.
True sustainability comes as a natural outcome from this philosophy. Through prioritizing a high degree of durability beyond excess, waste is diminished and a culture of appreciation instead of replacement will grow. Craftsmanship and local small-scale manufacturing will be the pillars of appreciation, not depreciation of outdoor products.
Quality must exceed quantity. When the design process originates in dissatisfaction, that is when real value is forged. Real value design creates a bond between consumer and product, improving lives past simple usefulness.
I strive to convey a narrative in my products. Material selection is the beginning and end of a products identity. By replacing plastic with leather and metal, a story of human hands, skill, and patience is told. A good product breaks in, not out. Real artistry respects custom, and welcomes novelty, so that each element provides for purpose along with aesthetics. I value craftsmanship over consumerism. I create not just for tomorrow, but for the next century.
